This piece focuses on themes like self-protection and heartbreak. Using black as the background is meant to represent the inside of a human’s body in order to have the arms & heart be visually present in the painting. What I wanted to express on what this painting evokes is how it feels to have your heart feel hurt from hardships or devastation. When life seems unfair, the way it takes our happiness away and it makes us feel unsafe and invalidated. Our hearts are very sensitive, and our reactions highly speaks on how and what we perceive things.
